So, there’s this amazing ball of energy in my life. It is contained within a 3 ft. tall coco colored framework complete with a head full of coffee tinted corkscrew curls and goes by the name of Colton. Today I had the leisurely Sunday pleasure of meeting with him and his mama at the beach.Typically this is a child who occupies himself gleefully when at the shore but this day only brought winces of discontent and continual pleas to go home. Neither his mother nor I were ready to give up our rare moments of time shared together so I reached into my bag and found a large wand of bubbles. Soon, he was mesmerized and the Art of Distraction was successfully under way.
We all have a bit of Colton in us.The daily rituals of joy that normally bring us pleasure can sometimes go off track. We find ourselves distracted by a random negative thought that, if not nipped in the bud, can burrow itself into our thought process and suddenly, without a hint of warning, that joy is upside down. We cannot for the life of us get out of our own way.

As Emmet Fox teaches us, we must then substitute a negative thought with a positive one. For example, instead of placing our focus on what’s not working in our life, we concentrate on perhaps the ONE THING that is going perfectly well.If we continue to dwell on the negative telling ourselves NOT to think about it, in actuality we are giving it our full force of thought!
When those moments come along to sabotage us, let’s reach in to our mental beach bag and pull out a bubble wand. Simply wave it around and watch how your disposition can do a 180
….just like Colton’s!
